Pregnancies that are affected with Down syndrome have lower than normal levels of PAPP-A, AFP, and uE3, whereas inhibin and beta-hCG are present in higher than normal levels. Similar to beta-hCG, higher than normal levels of this hormone indicates a higher risk of Down syndrome, and lower than normal levels of this hormone indicates a higher risk of trisomy 18.
